Overview

If migraines are a regular part of your life, the goal shifts from treating each one to preventing as many as possible. That takes tracking patterns and adjusting medication over multiple visits, exactly what an ongoing primary care relationship is built for.

How ongoing primary care can help

Your provider will review your migraine frequency, triggers, and current treatment to consider preventive medication options alongside acute treatment for when a migraine does happen.

When to seek emergency careA sudden, severe "worst headache of your life," headache with confusion, stiff neck, vision loss, or weakness needs emergency evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

Can migraine prevention really be managed over telehealth?
In many cases, yes. A primary care provider can evaluate your symptoms and history over video, review any recent labs, and help adjust your treatment plan when appropriate. For some chronic conditions, especially if they are uncontrolled, our providers may need to collect/complete vital signs, physical exams, lab tests, or imaging which requires an in person visit. Our providers will help you take the next step.
Do I need to keep seeing the same provider?
Continuity helps, as seeing the same provider over time means they already know your history and current plan, which usually means faster, more informed visits.
What if I need to be seen in person?
If your provider determines your condition needs an in-person exam, testing, or treatment they can't provide virtually, they'll let you know and help direct you to the right next step.
